Esports results: Week ending 08 July 2018

Welcome to this week’s esports update! As we moved from the regular season into the play-offs, we’ve seen some exciting match-ups AND some big upsets in the Gfinity Elite Series – things are heating up, and Melbourne looks to be leading the pack. And in the second week of the second season of Overwatch Contenders (try saying that ten times fast), it’s becoming plain to see that teams that were strong in Season 1 are likely to be the teams to beat again in Season 2.  Exciting times ahead – this weekend’s Gfinity Elite Series finals will be a blast.

TennoLive – Warframe announcements

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of Warframe. I love the game – for all its complexity, for the fact it locks its best stuff behind hours and hours of gameplay, for how deep and engaging it is… Recently, developers Digital Extremes held their TennoCon fan conference, and mad some massive announcements. While I couldn’t go to Canada to participate, I watched online and covered the announcements for PowerUp Gaming, an independent Australian gaming website that I’m working with. E3 2018: Bethesda

Bethesda followed up Microsoft’s conference today, and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting much. I was wrong, though, and very glad to be. The intro announced that Metacritic awarded Bethesda with the title of the #1 best-rated developer in the world, which isn’t terribly surprising, as although not all of their games appeal to me, they are always very popular and of extremely high quality. Kudos to Bethesda. This was then blown out of proportion with a live performance by Andrew WK (yes, he is still around, and actually released a new album only a couple of months ago) to introduce Rage 2. He was extremely high energy, which is his thing, and the crowd was… not. Anyway, read on for some nice surprises.
