E3 2018: Nintendo

Nintendo always puts on a good show – making a pre-recorded show and not doing it live means they have total control over timing and presentation, so they pack their Nintendo Direct full of announcements and other information. This one is pretty impressive, with a lot of announcements in a short period of time, followed by a deep dive into the new Super Smash Bros. I was a little disappointed there was no news about a new Animal Crossing, but hopefully they’re saving that for next year… Dig in (all dates based on Aussie release timeframes)!

Big changes coming to Paladins

I’ve always had a soft spot for Paladins: Champions of the Realm. While I initially loved Overwatch, I soon found space in my heart for this slightly less polished (but equally enjoyable) free-to-play hero team shooter. And while I haven’t played the game so much in recent months, I’ve continued to keep an eye on the subreddit in order to ensure I was across any changes. And boy, were there changes. December introduced the infamous Open Beta 64, bringing with it sweeping changes to the overall levelling system in the form of “Cards Unbound”. This system caused a huge uproar within the community, who made it very clear that they did not think this system was ideal. Well, with one update from the new Executive Producer, it looks like all of that is about to change, in a big way.

First Impressions: Paladins Beta

Paladins has been in open beta on PC since 2015, but was only released to Xbox One and PS4 in May 2017. I initially had it confused with Paragon, so I completely ignored the game (I’m not a fan of MOBAs), but on recently discovering my love for competitive multiplayer first-person shooters (and on subsequently discovering that that’s what Paladins is), I decided to give it a shot.
